Zikri Wahyuzi Revolutionizes Smart Office Monitoring with IoT and BiGRU Technology
Zikri Wahyuzi, a cum laude graduate from the Master Program in Informatics at the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Universitas Islam Indonesia (FTI UII), has successfully developed a cutting-edge smart office monitoring system. Leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) technology, his system monitors and analyzes electricity consumption in office environments, paving the way for enhanced energy efficiency and cost savings.
“The ongoing wave of digital transformation compels companies to optimize operational efficiency, especially in reducing electricity consumption,” explained Wahyuzi. “This system empowers businesses with actionable insights by generating detailed data for predicting energy use and improving operational efficiency.”
A Deep Dive into Data-Driven Predictions
The IoT-powered system collects electricity usage data alongside internal and external environmental metrics through embedded sensors. These datasets are then pre-processed and analyzed using exploratory data techniques and feature engineering. “Daily consumption trends and variable correlations are uncovered, forming a robust foundation for predictive modeling,” Wahyuzi noted.
To predict electricity consumption, Wahyuzi employed deep learning architectures, comparing Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) with Bidirectional GRU (BiGRU). His research demonstrated that BiGRU consistently outperformed GRU in accuracy metrics such as Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and R² scores.
“Although BiGRU involves higher complexity and longer training times, its significant accuracy improvements make it the optimal choice for a smart office monitoring system,” said Wahyuzi. During testing, BiGRU achieved a MAE of 0.0188, compared to GRU’s 0.0231, with a daily electricity consumption prediction error of just 11.76 kWh—less than half that of GRU.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency
This innovation is not merely a technical feat; it delivers tangible benefits. By identifying inefficiencies and optimizing energy use, companies adopting such systems can achieve notable reductions in operational costs. “BiGRU’s ability to capture bidirectional temporal data provides more accurate and actionable predictions, aiding companies in energy management strategies,” added Wahyuzi.
Academic Excellence and Recognition
Zikri Wahyuzi’s achievements extend beyond technical innovation. Completing his degree in just 1 year, 9 months, and 18 days with a near-perfect GPA of 3.96, Wahyuzi exemplifies academic and intellectual brilliance.
“Zikri’s accomplishments reflect not only his dedication but also his exceptional talent in data science,” remarked Irving Vitra Paputungan, Chair of the Master Program in Informatics, FTI UII. “He has established himself as one of the brightest minds in the field. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable career.”
A Bright Future for Smart Office Solutions
Zikri’s work exemplifies how IoT and advanced predictive models can transform energy management in office spaces. His success underscores the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies to address real-world challenges, setting a benchmark for future innovations in smart office systems.
