A warm welcome to the new students of International Undergraduate Program in Informatics UII 2021!
On Septemver 24, 2021, a Welcoming Session for the new students was held. The annual event for new students aims to explain in detail about Informatics UII and its activities, as well as the study activities that the students will follow in the next 4 years.

The completion of this Welcoming Session means that these new IT Solution Enablers have officially joined the big family of Informatics UII. Yes, our family is getting bigger and bigger~~~

What are your dreams and expectations for being student of International Undergraduate Program in Informatics UII 2021?

A total of five UII Informatics students who took part in the joint degree program UII x Nanjing Xiaozhuang University graduated on June 19, 2021. They managed to hold a double degree on the “Graduation Day 2021 International Student Nanjing Xiaozhuang University” which was held virtually.

The five graduates are Abyan, Gilang, Lintang, Luthfi, and Yudhis from the Class of 2017. The theses they raised are as follows:

– Abyan Fadilla Noor: SentiPress: iOS Based Sentiment Analysis Application towards the President of Indonesia using Twitter

– Gilang Persada Bhagawadita: Developing Mobile Attendance System Application using QR Code and GPS with Flutter

– Lintang Digdoyo: DevCollab: Project Management and Collaboration Web Application for Virtual Software Development Teams

– Muhammad Luthfi: GeometryAR: iOS Based Application for 3D Shapes Learning using Augmented Reality

– Yudhistira Adinugraha Hutabarat: Design and Implementation of Digital Transformation to Improve Business Process: A Case Study of Nestlé Indonesia

Graduation was opened with remarks from the rector, dean, heads of departments, and the best students, then continued by the handover of diplomas for each student. In addition, there were also video screenings of memories while studying at NXU and announcements of students’ best theses.

“Finally, I was able to graduate from both UII and NXU,” said Lintang, one of the joint degree program students.

Online graduations indeed leave a slightly different impression for these graduates. However, this certainly did not close their enthusiasm for the euphoria of graduation. Moreover, graduating with double degrees certainly made these five graduates more enthusiastic to continue their dreams.

“Feeling proud and carrying the burden, too. An international degree may be more attractive to companies if they want to work, but they also have a big responsibility towards both alma maters,” admitted Gilang, one of the graduates.

These graduates prove that Informatics students can also study abroad and have international exposure, one of which is by joining the UII x NXU joint degree program.

Last July, the Department of Informatics Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), in collaboration with Nanjing Xiaozhuang University (NXU) China, conducted an online Summer School activity. The activity, which was attended by UII and NXU students, took the theme ‘Design Thinking For Education 2021’.

This week-long activity made problem-solving the main focus of the discussion. Participants also had the chance to take language and culture classes, company visits, and virtual city tours of Yogyakarta.

How about the excitement of this event in the eyes of the participants?

One of the participants from UII, Anwaruddin Ridho Novianto, gave his impression of this event.

“I am happy and satisfied with this program because we, especially me as buddies from the regular class, can have the opportunity to meet and share experiences with NXU (Nanjing Xiaozhuang University) students even in the midst of a pandemic like this. I am able to know them further in terms of learning, collaboration, and culture, especially introducing Indonesian culture and the city of Yogyakarta to NXU students,” said Anwar.

He also expected this program to continue so that UII and NXU students could get to know each other and collaborate.

Of course, it will be very beneficial for both parties.

On November 18, 2019, Hendrik, the Head of Department of Informatics UII, together with Teduh Dirgahayu, the Head of Undergraduate Program in Informatics, visited Youngsan University (YSU) in Busan, South Korea. The purpose of this visit was to discuss the continuation of the Dual Degree (DD) program that has been running since 2015. Ibrahim Surya Putra and Muhammad Rizky Al-Faraizy, both class of 2013, were the first two alumni of this program. Meanwhile, two other students from class of 2015, Fairuz Shofi and Ivan Seto Adicahya, are the next in line.

Discussion with Youngsan University

During discussions with the Department of Computer Engineering YSU, Hendrik and Teduh had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Young-Gi Kim, the CEO of Wegochain, a South Korean company focusing on Blockchain-based applications and services development. At the time, Mr. Kim and his staff were about to interview Ivan Seto Adicahya, who was applying for a job at Wegochain. Alhamdulillah, Ivan is most likely joining Wegochain after completing his study at YSU next year.

During discussions, Wegochain interested in working with UII and they planned to open a branch office in Indonesia, especially in Yogyakarta. At present, the Department of Informatics UII is still in correspondence with Wegochain, to realize this collaboration. Hopefully, it will be realized soon next year.

Visit to Hanyang University

In addition to visiting YSU, Hendrik and Teduh also visited Hanyang University (HU) in Seoul as a reciprocal visit to HU’s visit to UII a few weeks earlier. Here, the discussion is more focused in the collaboration on the short-term program, such as summer and winter programs. Every year, the HU summer and winter programs are attended by approximately 2000 students from many countries.

On that occasion, HU also offered Department of Informatics UII to send its lecturers to come as visiting lecturers in the said short-term programs.

So, which one are you interested in joining? The Dual Degree program between UII and YSU? Or the short-term program at HU? All the while having the opportunity to explore further the world’s most innovative country.
